If you did not serve in any of the above conflicts you may still be eligible if you meet the following qualifications:
Peacetime service from:
- 07/26/47 to 06/26/50
- 02/01/55 to 08/04/64
- 05/08/75 to 09/07/80 (enlisted)
- To 10/16/81 (officer)
You must have served at least 181 days of continuous active duty and been discharged with honorable conditions. If you served less than 181 days and were discharged due to a service connected disability then you may still be eligible.
Selected Reserves and guard members are eligible after 6 years of service unless the member was placed on active duty for one of the above conflicts and served more than 90 days on active duty.
Other eligibility factors:
Surviving spouse of a veteran who died while in service or form a service connected disability and has not remarried.
A spouse of a service person missing in action or a prisoner of war.
Eligibility may also be established for certain U.S. Citizens who served in the armed forces of a government allied with the United States in WWII.
